What’s the deal with masks?

So as I woke up a recent Sunday morning with my usual excitement for my one and only news channel CBS Sunday morning, I was happy to see that at least two of the segments related directly to my topic: what is the deal with masks? and I’m not talking about what kind of masks are the best or the most healthy or the prettiest or the safest, I’m talking about what is the deal with peoples’ attitude toward them?

We have cool masks filled with jungle animals. One of my husband’s friends made them for us. They have a slit in the middle you can put a coffee filter for an extra layer of filtration. Cool idea, yes? I think about it, but I’ve never actually done it (we have a reusable washable filter in our Mr Coffee…)

Anyway, we wear the damn things. Whenever we are asked to. Technically I’m the one in our little bubble who is at risk: that pesky MS thing rearing its ugly head, but I haven’t really FELT at risk — like we are huge hand washers every time we walk in the door, and we haven’t been spending time indoors anywhere the term ‘viral load’ might come into play. Plus even though we live in a ‘hot spot’ (i.e. California — that is a big-ass state of almost 40 million people), this bubble in which we travel has had very low coronavirus numbers. Thank goodness.
